Affinity Credit Card Program
Affinity is not a company name but a descriptive word used to indicate a credit card program where card holders and their community affiliate (SMS) share in cash rewards and other incentives for enrolling in the program. Through a company called cardpartner.com, SMS has established a relationship with
United Missouri Bank (UMB) to provide a VISA Platinum credit card to qualified individuals in our school family.
SMS will get $50 cash for each active account and a small share of each dollar spent with the card. SMS does not incur any liabilities for customer defaults. See the list of features below:
- SMS is required to make reasonable efforts to notify our community about the card program. We will do this through our website, e-mails to SMS families, and flyers. SMS will also get compensated for referring other schools to this program.
- SMS will be provided a fully branded website where supporters can apply for a card. Application is over a secure connection directly to UMB.
- Successful credit card applicants get a SMS branded VISA Platinum credit card.
- Applicants can select from four card designs created from SMS student artwork.
- In addition to the benefits to SMS, each card holder qualifies for individual rewards through the VISA rewards program.
- Cards are issued by UMB. UMB sets and controls the terms on the card.
- Before applying, applicants will have an opportunity to see the terms. Current APR is 0.0% for the first six months and 11.15% thereafter. APR varies as the Prime Rate changes. The current Prime is at 5.25%, to which UMB adds 5.90%. UMB considers this a floor, so that the Prime rate they use will never go below this point but it could go up.
- No personal financial information will be seen or shared with SMS or cardpartner.com. Only the issuing bank, UMB, will see your personal information.
- SMS will receive 30 basis points ( 0.3% ) for each dollar spent with cards issued to SMS supporters. As an example for a $2000 monthly credit card bill, SMS would receive $6.00. Though it seems like a small amount wide-spread use of the card could net SMS significant sums over the course of a year. Funds will be deposited to SMS accounts quarterly.
On April 30, 2009 the portfolio manager at UMB, Jason Dyro (816-843-2843), reported these to be the current terms.
