Band

Once a student reaches fourth grade he or she may choose to become part of the junior band program. This is a special program, taught by an independent instrumental teacher. Practices are held once a week and with dedication and practice students are able to move up into advance band.

Robotics

Our Robotics program is a special program for students in grades 5 – 7 to work in teams and build a robot using the LEGO Mindstorm Robotics Systems. Each team must build robots in order to compete in a specific challenge. The team must also complete a research project related to the challenge. A new challenge is presented each year.

Contests

Throughout the year SMS students participate, and many times take top honors, in contests that range from drawing to speaking to writing and spelling. Students are encouraged to participate in contests like the "Keep Christ in Christmas" poster competition, the county fair speech contest, the local spelling bee, the National Geography Bee, and the American Legion essay competition, just to name a few.

Relay Races

Each spring students from kindergarten through eighth grade practice running and jumping hurdles in anticipation of the yearly relay races against other Catholic schools in the area.

St. Michael’s Legacy Pizza Company

Started in 1995, the current eighth grade class continues cooking and serving a variety of meals, with the focus being pizza, to the local community. Once a month the doors of the cafeteria are opened and school, parish, and the community are invited to come in and enjoy dinner in a family-friendly atmosphere.

LEO Club

Each year our eighth grade students are given the opportunity to work with, the adult Lion’s Club members who provide a variety of services for the local community. Students participate in a number of activities focusing on service to others while still enjoying the companionship of peers and adults.
